For me, a big part of using Photoshop is using (and assigning my own) shortcuts to speed up my daily workflow. Since as far back as i can remember, one of my most used shortcuts was to double-click on the application background to bring up the ‘Open’ dialogue box.
In Photoshop CS5, this shortcut is still available if no other documents are open as in the image below.

However, when a document is opened in a tabbed window as below, the application background is no longer visible. Now in previous versions of Photoshop its always been possible to still bring up the Open dialogue by double clicking in the area below the Tools pallet but in CS5 this has been removed!!
Why, Adobe… Why?!

Perhaps this is due to the new Mini Bridge? Maybe the bods over at Adobe want everyone to use Bridge to open files all the time.
If anyone knows of a way to re-enable this time-saving feature i’ll be happy to treat you to a beverage of your choice for your efforts.
Some things should just remain untouched.
